Fine bubble aeration with high oxygen-transfer is essential to obtain treatment level targets. It is recommended to evenly distribute GEMDISC disc diffusers within the aeration chamber (bio-reactor) for well-balanced fine bubble aeration.

The 12" disc diffuser with EPDM membrane ensures long-term reliable operation due to the valve-effect of the perforation, enabling both continuous as well as energy-efficient intermittent aeration intervals.

For effective operation and membrane longevity, air-input volume and pressure introduced into the disc diffuser should be (a) as high as is required for a good air bubble picture and (b) as low as possible.

The perforation of the membrane begins to open at approximately 40 mbar and is fully opened at ~ 200 mbar. After initial start-up (commissioning), it may be required to briefly operate at a moderately higher pressure level in order to allow the perforation over the full cross-section of the disc diffuser to open entirely. 

The flexible and elastic membrane in EPDM is suitable for operation at wastewater treatment plants with predominantly domestic sewage combined with a light to moderate influx of industrial wastewater.
